"Egyptian Ambassador to Rwanda Dr. Namira Negm along with Diplomatic Attaché Mazen Gaber Mousa met with Acting CEO of RwandAir Mr. Jean-Paul Nyirubutama in order to discuss strengthening ties between Egypt and Rwanda in the field of aviation.
Discussions were held regarding the possibility of having Egypt Air operate a direct flight from Cairo to Kigali, especially after both countries signed the bilateral air services agreement (BASA).
Among the topics of discussion were the training of Rwandan pilots and cabin crew in the Egyptian Aviation Academy, the oldest and most prestigious aviation academy in Africa".
Egytpair planned to serve Rwanda, in Summer 2011, but the airline put on hold the project, due to severe crisis in Egypt. Recently, The Egypt Ambassador told us, that they are currently working with authorities.
Currently most RwandAir pilots, Engineers and cabin crew are trained by Ethiopian Airlines. However, Egyptair operates a fleet of A330s, all powered by Trent 702s, the same that RwandAir will acquire, in 2016. Furthermore, Egyptair has A330s FFS (Full Flight Simulator) and has all certfications to perform maintenance on A330s
Note that The first RwandAir Airbus crew and engineers will be trained by Airbus.
