MH17 : Statement from Eugène-Richard Gasana the Permanent Representative of Rwanda to the United Nations and president of UN Council

Ambassador Eugene-Richard Gasana of Rwanda - the president of the UN Security Council for the month of July - told reporters that
this is indeed “the tragic situation for Malaysia for the second time,” making reference to the other Malaysian airliner, also a Boeing 777 flight MH370 which went missing en route to Beijing on March 8 carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17/MAS17) was a scheduled international passenger flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur which crashed on 17 July 2014 near Hrabove in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine, approximately 40 km (25 mi) from the Ukraine–Russia border. All 283 passengers and 15 crew members on board the aircraft were killed.
The crash occurred in the conflict zone of the ongoing Donbass insurgency. According to American intelligence officials, the plane was shot down, but the origin of the missile could not be confirmed.The crash occurred one day after the United States announced a new round of sanctions on Russia for its role in the 2014 Ukrainian crisis
