Bugesera Airport Previous Plan Revised

The initial design for Bugesera International Airport has been revised for extension and quality purposes to give the airport a more world-class stand.
The decision to expand the airport, was revealed by President Paul Kagame during a press conference on Friday, December 14, 2018.
In September 2016, Government of Rwanda signed a deal with Portuguese firm Mota Engil Engenharia e Construcao Africa – a Portuguese firm to deliver this airport facility.

Bugesera Airport to be among the greenest airports in Africa

Bugesera International Airport that is under construction is on track to receive green certificate, making it the first in the region to acquire such.
This was confirmed at the ongoing Africa Green Growth Forum (AGGF) that started in Kigali on Monday.
Speaking to The New Times on the sidelines of the forum’s dialogue on climate resilience, the Minister for Environment Dr Vincent Biruta said that the facility, which is the largest publicly funded project, will be a net zero emission complex.

The construction Bugesera International Airport has reached the 10 per cent milestone, five months since work on it started in August 2017.
Portuguese civil contractor Mota Engil who won the bid is seeking to meet a December 2019 deadline for the first phase and then the next phase six months later. The airport is expected to handle 1.7 million passengers per annum.
A route that will link Kigali City and the Bugesera Airport is currently under construction with the first phase of works set for completion mid next year.

Works on Bugesera International Airport will be launched tomorrow (09 August 2017), the Ministry of Infrastructure has said.
This will officially flag off the construction works on the $818-million proposed facility that will serve as main airport for the country. It is located in Bugesera District, Eastern Province.

MOTA-ENGIL SIGNS AN AGREEMENT TO DEVELOP THE NEW BUGESERA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN RWANDA
MOTA-ENGIL S.G.P.S., S.A informs that a Joint-Venture in which MOTA-ENGIL ENGENHARIA & CONSTRUÇÃO ÁFRICA SA (“MOTA-ENGIL AFRICA”) has a 75% stake signed today an agreement to develop the new “Bugesera International Airport” in Rwanda, subject to Financial Close.
The Agreement includes the financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the “Bugesera International Airport” for a period of 25 years, with an option of 15 years extension, and has an initial
investment in Construction of 418 million USD (approximately € 375 Million].
The new Airport will have an initial capacity of 1.7 Million passengers, and will expand subsequently upontraffic milestones being reached. The construction contract which is to be performed 100% by MOTA-ENGIL AFRICA is a fast-track construction contract, expected to be concluded in December 2018. It is anticipated that relevant international investors will adhere to the project, allowing the Financial Close to be reached at the latest by 30th June 2017 (works will start in June 2017, first flight should start in December 2018).
The project is part of an ambitious investment Program of the Rwanda Government to establish Kigali as a Tourist and Business Conference destination, as well as the hub for the RwandAir. This investment comes as an extension of the acquisition by Rwanda Air of new airplanes, and its aggressive growth plans, to be a leader in the Commercial Airlines Business in Africa.
