The proposed cable car project will be on Mountain Karisimbi, the 4th highest Mountain in Africa and will have Cable car Stations, Visitor Centre, Tower (Radio, TV, and Communication), Air Traffic Control System, Observation Deck and Climate Observatory. Feasibility, economic and financial studies were undertaken and the project looks viable and profitable.

Once this project is implemented, Rwanda will be the first in Africa and the second in the world highest Cable Car. It will be the second country in Africa to have a cable car, after Cape town, South Africa and will stand out from its competing neighbouring countries by offering the following unique features that are not available elsewhere in East Africa.

The tourism industry creates links with construction industries, transportation sectors, agricultural sectors, and cultural and historical institutions. Such far reaching connections create more prospects for sustainable development in overall economy of Rwanda. Karisimbi Cable Car Project, as the project will create employment opportunities and generate revenues. This will have an increase in overall revenues that Rwanda has been generating from tourism as it will increase the number of days tourists have been spending in Rwanda.

Beed Management, a management consulting and financial advisory services firm, has won a global bid to work on a consulting contract with the government of Rwanda.

The company said in a statement that it would be preparing abusiness plan for a cable car project on Mt Karisimbi besides undertaking a visioning and planning exercise for an ecotourism project.

The project involves establishing a US$ 35 million cable car on Rwanda’s highest peak Mt Karisimbi.

Meanwhile, the ecotourism project envisages establishing a 260 sq km area to promote ecotourism to make Rwanda the premier ecotourism destination in Central and East Africa.

The ecotourism project is projected to attract investments of $ 2 billion.

Sujeev Shakya, chief executive officer of Beed, described the deal as a proud moment for Nepali firms as they have shown to be able to win global bids and take their expertise outside the boundaries of Nepal.

“Our dreams of going international have begun, apart from remittance dollars, Nepal can now earn foreign exchange in the knowledge business also,” he said.
