What a code share ?

Rwanda will be a new destination of the global airline alliance "Oneworld" from 30 October 2013, with Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways will become a full member of the oneworld® alliance with effect from October 30, 2013, joining the world’s leading quality airline alliance. HERE  Rwanda is now served by the three global airline alliances : Skyteam, Star Alliance and Oneworld.

What is Oneworld ?

Oneworld is one of three largest global airline alliance, it was created in 1999.  It has 12 full members, British Airways, American, Qantas, S7 Airlines (Russia),  Air Berlin, Royal Jordanian, Iberia, Finnair (Finland), Cathay (Honk Kong), LAN Airlines (Chile), Malaysia Airlines and Japan Airlines. Sri Lankan Airlines, Qatar Airways and TAM Airlines (Brazil) will join the alliance in 2013-2014.

Oneworld serves 850 destinations in 150 countries, with a fleet of 2500 aircraft operating  9000 daily departure and carrying 337 millions of passengers, generating revenues of more than 100USD Billion.

What is the benefit for passengers flying to and from Rwanda, with Qatar Airways  ?

A passengers who flies from Los Angeles to Kigali will able to fly on American or British Airways from Los Angeles to London and then on Qatar Airways from London to Kigali, via Doha, with one ticket and often with affordable prices and good connections.

But passenger having a frequent flyer program will able to get more miles, he will has an access to lounges and others services provided by American, Qatar Airways and British Airways, but also by others members of the global airline alliance.  Example, if you fly from Finland to Rwanda with Qatar Airways, you will able to go to the Finnair lounge, cause Finnair is a member of "Oneworld".
