RwandAir wins the CIO 100 Award :

Investissements pay off, and the RwandAir's staff can prove it. Indeed, the airline has just won another award, this year. RwandAir was shortlisted among more 100 firms from East and Central Africa, under the theme "Innovation for buissnes value".
The CIO 100 awards seek to celebrate organisations that have innovatively used information technology to deliver business value. This year, RwandAir improved its IT Systems (Informations and Technologies Systems), thanks to various partnership with majors firms :
- With SITA, for its online booking system and the launching of a frequent flyer program. SITA has a already a prescence in Rwanda, with the installation of an ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information System = ATIS broadcasts contain essential information, such as weather informations, which runways are active,..) at Kigali airport, in 2008.
- With Amadeus the world's leading GDS (Global Distribution System) for the distribution of the airline prodructs.
- And finally with IFE Services for its in flight entertaiment on its two brand new B737-800s, and with Mobile operators (MTN Rwanda & Tigo Rwanda) enabling to passengers to get informations about flights.
This award also rewards efforts made by the Governement of Rwanda, who wants to transform Rwanda as an ICT Hub, in Africa.
RwandAir eyes ATRs and CRJ-700s :

RwandAir could add new aircraft in its regional fleet. The ATR and the CRJ-700 have a biggest capacity than the Dash 8-100 and the CRJ-200.
The ATR (no infos about the version) will be mainly used on the domestic network, which has recorded a strong demand. In October 2011, RwandAir provides 17 flights a week (11 to Kamembe and 6 to Gisenyi), while early in 2010 the airline provided only 5 flights a weeek to Kamembe. These flights are very popular among Congolese traders, living in the east of the Congo Kinshasa.
The CRJ-700 wil be used on the regional network, which has recorded a strong growth, especially to Nairobi (Kenya), which will be soon served with 5 flights a day instead of 3 flights.

RwandAir sees ATR-72s and Embraer E-Jets for the regional fleet :

RwandAir has announced that, they plan to add ATR-72s and E-jets for its future regional fleet. They will probably delivered by 2015.
Today, RwandAir uses a Dash 8-100 and two CRJ-200LRs for its regional flights to Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Gabon, Republic of Congo and also for its domestic operations to Kamembe and Rubavu.

RwandAir selects the B787 for its intercontinental expansion :
The info was (finally)* confirmerd yesterday, RwandAir plans to add a B787 for its intercontinental expansion. Indeed, the airline has already shown the interest to fly to China and Europe, within 5 years.
18 aircraft by 2020 :
Furthemore RwandAir will replace its two leased B737-500s, in two years, maybe by others Boeing 737NGs. John Mirenge the RwandAir CEO, has said that the RwandAir fleet will be composed of 18 planes by 2020, with the goal to fly to the main African Capitals.
New destinations, more frequencies : a Kigali-Dubai-Mumbai route is in project.
RwandAir has recently announced new destinations, which could be served in near the future. Juba (South Sudan), Lusaka (Zambia), Lagos (Nigeria), Harare (Zimbabwe) and Kinshasa (Congo DR) are on the top of the list.
RwandAir plans to add more flights to Dubai, and wants to expand the flight to Mumbai.
Great and ambitious project for a former virtual airline which was near the bankruptcy in early 2008, when their unique B737-200 was grounded by the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority due to safety concerns and corruptions problems.

Why finally ? In the waiting room of the RwandAir main agency at Kigali, we can see an advertisement where it written "by 2015 a Boeing 787 will be part of its fleet".
RwandAir and PTA Bank to sign Tail-end Loan Agreement :

The Eastern and Southern African Trade & Development Bank (PTA Bank) to disburse USD 60Million to the national carrier towards the two Boeing 737 – 800 purchase.
RwandAir the national carrier of Rwanda and The Eastern and South African Trade and Development Bank (PTA Bank) will be signing a Tail-end Loan Agreement this August 8, 2011.
The signing of this agreement follows the approval of EXIM Bank to finance RwandAir’s purchase of two Boeing 737-800; the first of which is due for delivery this month.

RwandAir gets $59million from US Bank :

Troubled national carrier RwandAir has secured a multi-million dollar loan from a US bank to buy more planes from American plane maker Boeing, RNA can exclusively reveal.
The board of directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) on Thursday approved more than US$59million to be loaned to RwandAir.
The loan will enable the country’s RwandAir Express to buy Boeing aircraft, said Ex-Im Bank in a statement. But there was not immediate indication as to how many planes will be bought.
The financing for the Rwandan carrier is part of a wider scheme including South Africa and other countries in Africa. The deals are aimed at creating market for American products for export. RwandAir will buy Boeing planes from the same loan.

RwandAir selects Kale's accounting solution :

Kale Consultants , a leading solutions provider to the global airline and travel industry, today announced that RwandAir, the national carrier of the Republic of Rwanda, has selected its passenger revenue accounting (PRA) solution REVERA for its PRA operations.
The solution would be deployed as a hosted model, giving the airline better control on costs and access to best practise data centre capabilities, Kale Consultants said.
RwandAir CEO John Mirenge said: "Kale's REVERA is a globally recognised solution and being able to access it as a hosted platform gives us best practise capabilities while reducing significant investments in hardware and maintenance costs."

RwandAir to distribute Amadeus products, in Rwanda :

National carrier, RwandAir, on Monday entered into a strategic partnership for the distribution of Amadeus products in the Rwandan market.
Amadeus is a leading travel technology partner and transaction processor for the global travel and tourism industry.
RwandAir’s Chief Executive Officer, John Mirenge, said the partnership will see travel agents in the country and Amadeus work together towards better distribution of airline products.

RwandAir selects IFE services for its in flight entertaiment :

RwandAir has selected leading in-flight entertainment specialist, IFE Services to meet all of its on-board entertainment requirements for its new Boeing 737 – 800s due for delivery in July and September later this year.
The agreement covers the provision of Hollywood and Classic movies, popular TV shows, audio channels and a CD library. The content will be shown on the airline’s Boeing 737-800 fleet running Panasonic’s eFX audio and visual on demand (AVOD) system.

RwandAir selects SITA to improve its Air Transport IT solutions:

RwandAir and SITA have entered into various agreements that will allow the national carrier acquire some key travel solutions, which will improve its service offering through better distribution and customer retention. These solutions include the SITA e-commerce platform which will allow for e-ticket distribution on the RwandAir website with credit card payment facility.
The system, which is in advanced stages of implementation, is expected to go live April 2011*. The airline will also be getting the Horizon FrequentFlyer system as part of its customer relationship management.
* : according to the RwandAir website, the system will be available, on April 1st 2011.
RwandAir launches a SMS service for flights schedule :

RwandAir has partnered with mobile operators MTN and Tigo to help travellers get information about flight schedules via mobile SMS. The service which will help reduce queues at the carrier's selling offices will also help its travellers to get instant auto response with accurate flight details after sending their queries.
The service already active in Rwanda on the MTN and Tigo networks will be rolled out in phases to cover the entire East African network and other RwandAir destinations. To access the flight schedules, customers send a word such as RwandAir (space) destination to either 123 on MTN or 7333 on Tigo and then wait for the automatic response.
The airline is also in advanced stages on plans to implement an internet booking engine with credit card payment facilities. This booking engine will later be optimized to allow for bookings via mobile phones.
RwandAir chooses TIMCO for its 737-800s :

RwandAir today announced leading aircraft seat manufacturer Brice Seating, a part of the TIMCO Aerosystems family of interior products, its selected seat supplier. The B1010 economy seat and its B2054 business class seat have been selected for installation on the new B737-800 aircraft deliveries.
Each of the seat products will include a robust, built-in entertainment system, providing passengers with the latest state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment.
