When Tune Hotels will open their first African property in Nairobi next year it will signal the arrival of the first budget hotel group of global standing in Kenya, as all other global investments in the hospitality sector until now concentrated on the 5 star and 4 star market.

All the major hotel chains are either already on site or in the process of establishing hotels in Nairobi, mostly on management contracts while the entire Eastern African region has over the past few years seen an increased interest from the hotel giants, following the discovery of oil and gas in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Once the hotel in Nairobi is open has the group plans to expand the brand in the Eastern African region with Dar es Salaam reportedly next on the list, before also seeking expansion into Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.

Philippe Colleu remplacé à la présidence du groupe hôtelier Onomo

À l'occasion d'une assemblée générale, Philippe Colleu, le fondateur du groupe Onomo, a été remercié : il quitte ainsi la présidence du conseil d'administration de la chaîne hôtelière. Un départ "inattendu et brutal", pour reprendre les mots de l'un de ses anciens collaborateurs.

Il est remplacé par Julien Ruggieri, fils du fondateur du holding Batipart, actionnaire minoritaire au début de l'aventure en 2009 mais devenu détenteur de 90 % du capital en 2013. Julien Ruggieri, qui sera secondé par Cédric Guilleminot, directeur général d'Onomo, explique que son prédécesseur continuera à agir en tant que consultant.

La chaîne hôtelière de milieu de gamme, déjà propriétaire de trois hôtels, à Dakar, à Abidjan et à Libreville, s'apprête à ouvrir des établissements au Togo et au Mali, et des chantiers doivent démarrer avant la fin de l'année au Liberia, en Guinée ou encore au Bénin. Enfin, d'autres projets sont à l'étude en Afrique de l'Est et au Rwanda.
